About the inventor of the Niazit joist

Inventor's profile and work history:

Mr. Engineer Mohammad Niazi was born in 1948 in Arak city. He completed his primary education in Khuzestan (Bandar Mahshahr). After graduating from the University of Tehran, he went to the United States to continue his studies. He studied civil engineering at the American University and a master’s degree in chemistry at the American University. After completing his studies, he returned to the country and was able to provide many services to this country for more than fifty years of design, calculation, and implementation work.

Interview with Engineer Mohammad Niazi:

I, Mohammad Niazi, am the inventor of Niazit joists, a structural engineer, and a graduate of the University of Tehran and American universities. During this time, I have conducted the necessary theoretical and practical research and investigation into the performance of roof systems and their stability (especially during the implementation and occurrence of earthquakes) in Buin Zahra, Avuj, Bam city, and many times, and several images with the causes of damage were also published. It was observed that the roofs made with an open web system (removal of concrete between the joists and the free web sections of the joist), which we generally know as trusses, did not fail or suffered minimal damage.

Therefore, I summarized my practical and theoretical experiences, and after continuous research and testing, Niazit joists were finally invented. In addition, the Niazit system can be used in all concrete and metal buildings, commercial halls, etc.

An important issue regarding this type of joist is to provide the necessary strength against the destructive forces of earthquakes. This would be a step towards protecting the lives and property of the people of this society and minimizing losses and damages in such disasters.

The second issue is saving materials, such as iron and concrete, which saves a huge amount of materials by 15 to 20 percent, which is one of the good factors for preserving the country’s national resources.

The third issue is that from a financial point of view, it will be much more economical than existing roofs, while the useful life of such roofs is several times that of traditional roofs.

Suppose we want to explain the design and construction of such roofs. In that case, the American and European Metal Joist Association has continuously developed and completed this system for about seventy years. It has been considered as the roof with high resistance and economy. Of course, after studying this process by previous inventors, many weaknesses still needed to be corrected so that the best performance against earthquakes and the most economical ones could be achieved with the least amount of materials used.

Therefore, the Niazit joists were designed entirely new without any foreign counterparts. Because there were no foreign counterparts, they could register their patent in Iran.
